Moses Receives the Ten Commandments

Exodus 20

Story 12
Old Testament

The Story Unfolds

After their escape from Egypt, the Israelites traveled through the wilderness to Mount Sinai. There, God called Moses to the top of the mountain, which was covered in a thick cloud of smoke and fire. Amidst thunder and lightning, God gave Moses the Ten Commandments, a set of divine laws for how His people should live in relationship with Him and with each other. These laws, inscribed on two stone tablets, formed the heart of God's covenant with the nation of Israel.
